Deutsche Presse-Agentur quoted data from the Federal Network Administration and reported that in Germany, renewable energy power generation will account for 56% in 2023. By comparison, this proportion was 47.4% in 2022.
Specifically, Germany’s hydroelectric power generation in 2023 increased by 16.5% compared to 2022, mainly due to higher rainfall in 2023 and drought in many areas; The onshore wind power generation increased by 18% year-on-year, thanks to the installation of more wind power facilities; The year-on-year decrease in offshore wind power generation is due to many offshore wind power facilities and transmission lines undergoing maintenance and repair; The solar power generation is roughly the same as in 2022, due to the relatively insufficient sunshine in 2023 despite the increase in installed capacity; The electricity generation from biomass and other renewable energy sources has decreased.
Germany’s coal and nuclear power generation significantly decreased in 2023, and its last three nuclear power plants were shut down in April of the same year. Germany plans to source 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
