Solar panel system

What issues need to be avoided when installing photovoltaic on the roof?

In order to implement the national carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, many places have started building rooftop photovoltaic systems to maximize the use of rooftop space for installing photovoltaic panels. But when installing, it is also important to note that not all roofs are suitable for installing photovoltaics.

On September 12th, the Economic Development Bureau of the Management Committee of the Zhangzhou Taiwan Merchants Investment Zone in Fujian Province issued the “Opinions on Regulating the Construction of rooftop Distributed Photovoltaic Power Generation Projects in Our District (Trial)”, which clearly stated that if the following 9 situations were found during project investigation, the roof should be deemed unsuitable for installation or the installation area should be reduced:

1. Old residential buildings that have been completed for over 25 years;

2. Buildings with structural, fire, electrical, and other safety risks;

3. Buildings with a risk assessment level of C or D;

4. Buildings with roofs (including tiles, tile bearing structures, and roof platforms) that have been in disrepair for a long time and pose structural and other safety risks;

5. Planned demolition or abandoned buildings within five years;

6. Buildings with overall shaded roofs or large areas of shading around them;

7. Buildings with large dust, heat, and corrosive gases on the roof or surrounding areas;

8. Buildings with fire hazards classified as Class A and Class B in production;

9. Areas that may reduce the sunlight standards of adjacent buildings after installation.

This opinion will be implemented on a trial basis from September 5, 2023, and is valid for one year.

Roofs that have avoided these conditions can only be qualified to install photovoltaics, otherwise there may be safety hazards, affecting residents’ normal lives, or causing economic losses.
