At the end of 2023, the Office of the President of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Energy held a ceremony to initiate the integration of new energy investment projects into the grid. Uzbekistan President Mirziyoyev and Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov attended.
At the event, Mirziyoyev and members of the Standing Committee of the China Energy Construction Party jointly pressed the start button to congratulate China Energy Construction on investing in the construction of the first phase of the 1 GW photovoltaic project in Uzbekistan, which is a 400 MW on grid power generation project. This marks the milestone achievement of the largest photovoltaic project invested by Chinese enterprises overseas, laying a solid foundation for achieving full production and power generation in 2024.
The 1 gigawatt photovoltaic project in Uzbekistan is invested by China Energy Engineering Gezhouba Investment Corporation, including the 500 MW photovoltaic projects in Buzhou and Kazhou. The Kazhou project is jointly contracted and constructed by China Energy Construction Tianjin Electric Power Construction and Northeast Institute, while the Buzhou project is contracted and constructed by China Energy Construction Group, with Xinjiang Institute participating in the design.
The project is the first large-scale new energy project invested and constructed by Chinese enterprises in Central Asia after the China China Asia Summit in May 2023, and also the largest photovoltaic project invested and constructed by Chinese enterprises in Central Asia under the background of the “the Belt and Road”. During the construction and operation period of the project, approximately 1600 new job opportunities can be created locally; After operation, the annual power generation can reach about 2.4 billion kilowatt hours, and it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.4 million tons annually, equivalent to saving 520 million cubic meters of natural gas.
President Mirziyoyev congratulated Uzbekistan on the first phase of the 1 gigawatt photovoltaic project with 400 megawatts of grid connected power generation, admired the construction speed of the project, and highly praised China Energy Engineering Corporation for its contribution to promoting Uzbekistan’s energy structure transformation and economic and social development. He said that the grid connection of the project will provide sufficient green and clean power for the local area, which is of great significance for promoting social and economic development. It is an important achievement of the joint construction of the “the Belt and Road” between China and Uzbekistan, and an important manifestation of the high-level comprehensive strategic partnership and high mutual trust between China and Uzbekistan.
A member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of China Energy Construction said that with the high attention and support of President Mirziyoyev, the project successfully achieved the first phase of the project, creating a construction record of China’s overseas market. In the future, CNPC will continue to provide first-class technology, products and services, and make new and greater contributions to the realization of the “New Uzbekistan” planning goals and high-quality “Belt and Road”.
