On December 25th, at the 2023 Annual Conference of the Photovoltaic Industry, the 700W+Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance was officially established. This is seen as another milestone moment in the photovoltaic industry. Upgrading from 600W+to 700W+is not only an upgrade of component products, but also a leap in the overall ecosystem of the industry. At this point, China’s photovoltaic industry has completed the “mandatory courses” for entering the era of 700W+. For a considerable period of time, the photovoltaic industry has been committed to promoting industry standardization. Due to the inconsistent size of silicon wafers used by different enterprises, the manufacturing cost of the photovoltaic industry chain has increased; At the market level, it has caused difficulties in product selection for power station customers, installation of photovoltaic systems, and collaboration between upstream and downstream.

The size of silicon wafers has become the mainstream industry recognized from a variety of sizes to 210 sizes, undergoing a long spiral iteration process. Every round of product iteration is accompanied by the elimination of equipment and production lines, which is a huge waste for all enterprises. In theory, the size of silicon wafers should be as large as possible, which can further reduce the cost of battery components and save system BOS costs. However, the size of the silicon wafer cannot be infinitely enlarged, as excessively large silicon wafers can cause reliability issues. What is the optimal size of a silicon wafer at a certain level of technical proficiency? On August 16, 2019, the 210mm ultra large silicon wafer G12 was launched, attracting industry attention. Afterwards, the size of 210 silicon wafers gradually became mainstream and accepted by the market. On July 9, 2020, a total of 39 enterprises from the upstream and downstream of the photovoltaic industry chain, including silicon wafers, batteries, modules, tracking brackets, inverters, materials and equipment manufacturers, jointly established the “600W+Photovoltaic Open Innovation Ecological Alliance”, connecting various links such as raw materials, auxiliary material supply, production manufacturing, system adaptation, logistics, etc., opening the door to the era of high-power.

Since 2023, the standardization of photovoltaic products has accelerated. On July 7th, nine component companies simultaneously announced that they had reached a consensus on standardizing the dimensions of the new generation rectangular silicon wafer’s pattern components (2382mm * 1134mm); In December, with the iteration of N-type technology, the power of 210 size photovoltaic modules gradually entered the era of “700W+”; On December 11th, a joint initiative was released to promote the standard design and application of 700W+photovoltaic modules, which stipulated the external dimensions and long side installation hole spacing of 700W+photovoltaic modules.
