This year, the explosive growth in overseas demand for energy storage has led to a sharp increase in orders for domestic energy storage battery cell manufacturers. According to institutional data, in the first half of 2025, global energy storage battery cell shipments reached 226 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 97%. Among the top nine companies, all are Chinese firms, with domestic companies accounting for over 90% of global energy storage lithium battery shipments. Overseas bulk orders have repeatedly set new records.
Factories are operating at full capacity to meet production demands, and with the implementation of market-oriented reforms for new energy (feed-in tariffs), some energy storage companies have even reported that ”even price increases cannot secure orders,” leading to a situation where ”battery cells are in short supply.”
The overseas photovoltaic (PV) installation market is similarly booming. Traditional overseas markets such as Europe and the United States have entered a mature development stage, while emerging markets like India, the Middle East, and Latin America are experiencing rapid growth. According to the CPIA, overseas (new PV installations) are expected to exceed 300 GW in 2025, a year-on-year increase of approximately 25%. Global new PV installations are projected to reach 570-630 GW in 2025, a year-on-year growth of about 13%.
Latest data shows that in the first half of this year, China’s polysilicon production reached 700,000 tons, silicon wafer production reached 320 GW, and crystalline silicon battery production reached 240 GW. In terms of exports, China’s PV product export volume totaled $12.7 billion. In the first half of the year, the growth rate of production across all segments of the PV industry exceeded 40% or even 50%, with some segments surpassing 100%. The industry scale continues to maintain rapid growth momentum.
