Ecuador is vigorously promoting the transformation of its energy structure. In early 2026, the government of the country announced the launch of a bidding process for 2.1 GW of new electricity capacity, with photovoltaic projects accounting for a significant share, including the 1500 MW Zapotillo photovoltaic power station and the 200 MW Santa Elena project. According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency, as of the end of 2024, Ecuador’s installed photovoltaic capacity is only 32 MW, with huge growth potential. At present, 970 MW renewable energy projects are in the licensing stage and are expected to be put into operation from 2027 to 2028.

Policy Environment

At the policy level, positive signals are also being released. On March 30, 2026, Ambassador Sun Xiangyang met with the President of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Association of Ecuador, Marcelo, and made it clear that the embassy will encourage more Chinese companies to seek cooperation with new energy practitioners in Ecuador. Previously, the Eritrean National Assembly had passed the “Organic Law for Promoting Private Investment in Power Generation” in October 2024, providing legal protection for investment in new energy projects.

Market Demand

In terms of market demand, the development momentum of distributed photovoltaics in Ecuador is strong. In 2024, the country experienced a severe power crisis and implemented night time power restrictions nationwide, greatly stimulating the demand for solar energy solutions from industrial, commercial, and residential users. According to SolarTeam data, 28 users in the Ambato region alone have installed solar power projects with a total installed capacity of approximately 6 megawatts.

Market research shows that the solar product market in Ecuador covers categories such as solar lamps, solar chargers, and solar cells. Among them, the solar home lighting market will achieve a growth rate of 52.15% in 2024, with the main import sources being China, India, the United States, and others. This trend provides a clear market foundation for Multifit Solar to export products such as mobile power banks and solar lights.
