At the Solar Exhibition, Sensing the Light of China’s New Energy Industry in Africa

The Africa International Solar Exhibition was held from the 3rd to the 4th in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Inside the exhibition hall, clean energy products such as photovoltaic modules and energy storage equipment were neatly arranged. Multiple Chinese new energy companies showcased their technological solutions, drawing a constant flow of visitors to their booths. This was not only a concentrated display of new energy technology but also a true reflection of Chinese enterprises bringing green energy into the daily lives of Africans.

Cynthia Muhati, the acting CEO of the Kenya Renewable Energy Association, told reporters on-site that Chinese new energy products are having a profound impact locally: “People’s quality of life has significantly improved. With lighting, children can study at home safely in the evenings, and adults can engage in small businesses to increase their income.”

For many African families, access to electricity is not a given. Frequent power outages, high electricity costs, and reliance on diesel generators are the harsh realities faced in many areas. In this context, “new energy” is no longer an abstract concept but an accessible and affordable solution.

Li Hewei, Sales Manager at Ningbao Deye Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., introduced to reporters that the company’s developed photovoltaic-plus-storage system can achieve millisecond-level switching during power outages, almost imperceptible to users, while also reducing fuel expenses, making life more convenient for local residents.

At the exhibition, many Chinese companies highlighted product designs adapted to the African environment, emphasizing features like high-temperature resistance and dustproofing. Reporters learned at the LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. booth that their back-contact photovoltaic panels not only improve power generation efficiency and system stability but also offer fireproofing, dust resistance, and bird dropping protection.

Zuo Lin, the company’s Sales Manager for Africa, mentioned that through collaborations with universities, installer competitions, and training programs, they have sparked local youth’s interest in new energy, attracting more people to participate in installation, design, consulting, and even entrepreneurship. This not only promotes the application of new energy locally but also nurtures local technical talent.

This pragmatic approach has received a positive response from the African industry. Lethabile Melamu, CEO of the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association, stated that Chinese enterprises focus on deep cooperation with local industries and labor forces while promoting new energy projects, which is precisely what Africa needs.

Cynthia added that Chinese companies have established distribution networks locally, providing training for distributors and industry chain participants, playing a key role in driving industry development. “Chinese companies are making important contributions to the green transformation of the African continent.” The advantage of Chinese companies lies in their flexibility and diversity, with products covering the complete range from economical to mid-to-high-end, meeting the needs of different users.

Reporters learned during their visit that exchanges between Chinese and foreign exhibitors were not limited to technical specifications but focused more on practical issues such as “how to implement,” “how to reduce costs,” and “how to expand coverage.” These discussions reflect the real challenges Africa faces in its energy transition and demonstrate the pragmatic approach of all parties in cooperation.

Ayo Ademiluyi, CEO of the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, said that Chinese companies will play a significant role in Africa’s new energy development. He believes that in the coming years, more factories will be established in Africa, while also sharing expertise in training, engineering, equipment maintenance, and after-sales service, thereby promoting the sustainable development of the local new energy industry.

Many exhibitors and locals share this sentiment. They believe that Chinese new energy technology brings not just products and solutions, but tangible, felt change. As stable, clean electricity gradually reaches more people, Africa’s energy transition is moving from concept to practice, and China’s new energy industry is both driving and witnessing this process.

This inspiring report showcases the fruitful achievements of China-Africa new energy cooperation. Among the many Chinese enterprises dedicated to rooting green energy technology in Africa, MULTIFIT is also bringing efficient and reliable solar solutions to thousands of households with the same pragmatic spirit.
